I'll give myself the prop -- I think sometimes I'm capable of writing a pretty good song. While I say that much, I also need to add I don't necessarily disagree with my detractors that, yes, I'm capable of making records that might scare the cat.
That being said, more lately I've heard a couple of Baptist Generals covers I recognize as being written by me, but are so well handled in the treatment they suggest maybe I shouldn't be recording my own songs.

One of the too-small-handful of great professors I encountered while in college was apparently shot by a fairly disturbed individual earlier this month while attending a Unitarian church service in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. I'm glad Joe Barnhart is alright. Whew. Close one.
